Press Council commission holds meeting

Azerbaijan Press Council’s commission for complaints held its next meeting. The Press Council told APA the meeting examined eight complaints. “Azerneftyagh” Oil Refinery department’s chief Chingiz Akhundov’s application on “Reyting” newspaper was considered. “Chingiz Akhundov accused the newspaper of using false news in the article titled “major problems in oil industry…”. Fazil Ahmad, deputy chief editor of the newspaper apologized to the opposite side”.
The meeting also decided that “Kriminal Alam” (“Criminal World”) newspaper without referring to real facts and proves published an article titled “Brothel found in Khanlar”. It is said that this article was written on the basis of undertone of hostility. “Azeri Press Agency (APA) applied to the Press Council accusing the newspaper of misusing of its name. Public Television’s regional correspondent Amina Rahimova accused the newspapers of offending her dignity and self-respect. Azerbaijan Interior Ministry sent an application to Press Council and said it did not carry out operation in Khanlar’s “Shir Shir” restaurant to liquidate brothel as it is presented by the newspaper.
Commission said the newspaper should have apologized to the mentioned bodies and peoples and published article denying the first article. But the newspaper insisted on its first view publishing the similar article in the following editions of the newspaper.
The Commission also informed “Yeni Chagh” newspaper’s chief editor Agil Jamal of the 4 articles published in the March-April which is full of offense, libels and biased news about the chairman of Azerbaijanis intellectuals’ society Eldaniz Guliyev. Agil Jamal apologized to the opposite party. The Commission made corresponding verdicts on other cases. /APA/
