Event on Rafig Tagi and Samir Sedagetoglu right defense held

The event on right defense of writer Rafig Tagi and Senet editor-in-chief Samir Sedagetoglu sentenced to 3 years in custody by Sebayel district court for article “Europe and us” was held today, APA reports.
Several writers and jailers’ defenders participated in the event organized by Independent Writers’ Union (IWU).
IWU chairman, Alatoran editor-in-chief Rasim Garaja, journalist Elchin Seljug, poet Murad Kohnegala, writer Sefer Alisharli noted in their statements that the sentences of Rafig Tagi and Samir Sedagetoglu are too severe. They proposed to appeal to the international organizations on retrial. Sefer Alisharli offered to appeal to President Ilham Aliyev and Haydar Aliyev Foundation president, MP Mehriban Aliyeva.
Raset Pirisoylu, chief of the committee for Sedagetoglu’s right defense, stressed that both prisoner are in danger. There may be some propaganda or illegal act against them. He said both should be freed. At the conclusion the participants made a statement which says these sentences emerged contradiction between constitution and Crimes Code. The statement reads that the verdict is against freedom of speech and proves existence of pressures on media. The statement demands to free Sedagetoglu and Tagi soon. /APA/
