Responding to the journalists’ questions on it, the Presidential Administration’s representative noted one can by no means restrict any citizen’s right to appeal to court for protecting his or her honor and dignity: “We can’t deprive the citizens of this right, at the same time restrict the court decision-making. We have been calling on media outlets to adhere to the code of ethics and common behavior rules adopted by the Press Council. Though we support mass media and try to solve their financial problems, such cases will be inevitable, if they don’t respect the citizens’ rights, their own professions, deliberately release such reports a people and do not dare refute them. How can it be that one of the largest newspapers of Turkey “Hurriyyet” publishes a refutation after the court’s decision taking into account the right demands of an Azerbaijani official, but some of our media outlets do not consider it necessary to publish refutation after the court decision. In this case, of course, media can not unilaterally have legal advantage. According to the rules of the legal state in Azerbaijan, the right of a person begins where another’s right ends. The press must understand its responsibility and respect the people’s honor and dignity. I reiterate that if the court decisions are set for fulfillment, the government can’t do anything. The government can offer extra support to the press, but this can not free them from courts and people’s right discontents."
