Representative of Azerbaijanâ€™s Presidential Administration: â€œThe statement of the European Commission Vice President is contrary to Azerbaijan’s intention and activityâ€

He said that the principal and unchanged position of Azerbaijan was the establishment of all conditions to ensure freedom of internet: â€œThe statement of Neelie Kroes, Vice President of the European Commission, that there is control over internet and electronic media, its broadcast is restricted in Azerbaijan is contrary to Azerbaijani government’s intention and activity.â€

Elnur Aslanov declared that compared to most countries, Azerbaijan is a country with the highest Internet penetration rate (65%): â€œAs the living standards are rising and human factor is improving, this rate will surely increase in the near future. Day by day people have more opportunities to get information. But the information, which the official of a European institution cites, is sourced from biased position.â€

According to the representative of the Presidential Administration, free access to Internet sites and free sharing of opinions by citizens in social networks have an important impact on the development of state-citizen relations: â€œThe Internet censorship and restrictions imposed in different countries eventually weakened public confidence in the government agencies and proved it to be ineffective. We have always been against the restriction of Internet and now adhere to this position.â€
