Head of the PACE pre-election mission meets with leading media managers of Azerbaijan

APA Director General Vusala Mahirgizi, editors-in-chief of the newspapers “525-ci gazet” and “Baku-Khabar” Rashad Majid and Aydin Guliyev, Trend news agency’s Deputy Director General Emil Huseynov participated at the meeting, APA reports.

Pre-election situation in the country’s media, its impact on the election process and other issues were discussed at the meeting.

Head of the PACE pre-election mission took interest in the opportunities created by the Central Election Commission for mass media to conduct election campaign. APA Director General Vusala Mahirgizi said CEC didn’t tell difference between the media organizations for their political position and even those websites which have no legal registration also get an opportunity. Mahirgizi said most of the private TV channels didn’t join the election campaign for their own choices. APA Director General emphasized that the Public Television based on contributions of the taxpayers created equal opportunities for all candidates. “I consider the political activeness as normal in this situation, but the activeness could be more intensive. It depends on the political parties in any case. APA Group created equal campaign opportunities for all candidates not depending on their political views. Every candidate can use the APA Group’s mass media resources for the election campaign in accordance with the advertising terms we declared”, said Mahirgizi.

“525-ci gazet” Editor-in-Chief Rashad Majid spoke about the media’s impact on the pre-election atmosphere.

“Baku-Khabar” Editor-in-Chief Aydin Guliyev said that opinion polls were not conducted by the newspapers and it was conducted by the non-governmental organizations now. “There is no social control over these issues now”.
