Baku hosts conference â€œProtection of freedom of expression through media self-regulationâ€

The amended document aims to improve institutional experience of the journalists and to implement ethic standards in daily activity of the media representatives. The new document based on previous professional ethics of the Press Council focused attention on the collection and spread of information, criminal reporting and presumption of guiltlessness, as well as independence of media and journalist rights.

Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashev said the new rules would contribute to the improvement of professional level of the journalists. Representative of the Presidential Administration Vugar Aliyev noted that one of the main problems mass media faces is lack of advertising market. â€œBut every year the President allocates financial assistance to media organizations for improvement of their material and technical basisâ€.

OSCE Special Representative for freedom of media Dunja Mijatovicâ€™s address was read out at the conference. Mijatovic was expected to attend the conference, but she couldnâ€™t because of health problems. Mijatovic said she would visit Baku by the end of the year.
