OSCE Office holds seminar on government-media relations in democratic society - <font color=red>UPDATED - PHOTO</font>

Chiefs of press services from different ministries and state offices attend the event.
Delivering keynote speech at the event, Democratization Programme Manager of the OSCE Office in Baku Jacqueline Carpenter noted that the event was the second seminar and that the first seminar was held in December last year. She said that such events serve to the strengthening of government-media relations.
Department Head of the Presidential Administration Vugar Aliyev said that law on â€œInformation Acquirementâ€ adopted in 2005 meets standards and plays an important role in the regulation of relations between information owners and society. He said that significant changes had occurred in the activity of state structures with media after the adoption of that law: â€œOf course, it is impossible to say that the situation in this sphere is ideal. But appropriate measures are taken for transparency of the information security. The main fact is that the state has a political will in this directionâ€.
Senior Advisor of OSCE Representative in Media Freedom Issues Alexander Boldirev noted that agreement on holding such events had been reached during meeting between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and former representative of OSCE for Freedom of Mass Media Miklosh Harasti. The purpose was to contribute to regulation of government-media relations. Boldirev said that within the mutual activity, both government bodies and media bore responsibility.
Local and international experts informed the participants about local and international laws on government-media relations, information security in OSCE area and about improvement the work with media. Issues on current state of media in Azerbaijan and improvement of relations between government and journalists were also discussed at the event.
