Safeguarding media freedom in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine – Conference in Tbilisi

Baku. Victoria Dementivea – APA. A conference entitled “Safeguarding media freedom in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine” will take place at Marriott Hotel in Tbilisi on April 15-16. The conference will be organized in the framework of the 2009-2010 Swiss chairmanship of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, APA reports quoting the press service of the Council.
Public officials, parliamentarians, media professionals and representatives of NGOs will debate the safety and protection of journalists, the challenges to freedom of expression and the changes in the media brought by new technologies.
The aim of the event is to discuss how to further promote freedom of expression and information in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in line with Council of Europe standards and recommendations.

Dunja Mijatovic, recently appointed OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, and William Horsley, Chairman of the UK section and Media Freedom Representative of the Association of European Journalists, will be among the key speakers. The event will bring together over sixty representatives from the South Caucasus and Moldova and Ukraine.
