National Broadcasting official: â€œThe opening of new TV channel is a subject of discussionsâ€

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva â€“ APA. â€œWe are looking forward to open TV channels in the main regions of Azerbaijan until the parliamentary elections to provide the candidates to run their campaign on local televisions. We are thinking to open the new channel in Shirvanâ€, chairman of the National Broadcasting Council Nushiravan Maharramli told APA. He said it needed to have advertising market, personnel to create new channels. â€œThe modern TV channels should meet all contemporary staff and technical requirementsâ€, said Maharramli.

He also noted that the issue of election campaign was discussed in his meeting with the PACE co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel . â€œThere are no serious changes in the pre-election campaign issue. This issue is regulated by the Electoral Code. According to the Code, every candidate should run election campaign within the requirements of advertising and therefore the candidates have to understand that the TV channels can not allocate them air time in that duration they demand. This issue will be regulated by the legislatureâ€.
