Workshop on the theme “Work with mass media, establishment of media relations, modern tendencies in mass media sector” was held for the participants of “The Winter University for Young Leaders” organized by “IRELI” Public Union, APA reports. Addressing the event Director General of APA Information Agency Vusala Mahirgizi briefed the participants about general state of media in Azerbaijan. Vusala Mahirgizi said APA was engaged in online journalism. Speaking about the working principles of the agency Director General underlined that the internet was very important and the youth took active part in the social networks.
“Azerbaijani readers get information from news portals in the Azerbaijani and Russian languages. The number of the Azerbaijani-language news portals has recently increased in Azerbaijan,” she said. Vusala Mahirgizi said socio-political news articles were open on the agency’s website, economic news articles locked. Giving information about the history of the agency Vusala Mahirgizi underlined that APA released 600-650 news articles in five languages a day.

Asked whether blogs were considered mass media Vusala Mahirgizi said mass media functioned basing on concrete laws. She noted that the functioning of blogs was not regulated basing on any law. Director General said there was serious competition among mass media in the world and electronic media was ahead.
“Electronic media is quicker in giving information,” she said.

To the question that criminal news articles released by APA Information Agency, Lent.az and vesti.az portals gave ground to Armenians to present Azerbaijan as a cruel nation, Vusala Mahirgizi said the most important thing for a journalist is to release information.
“On the other hand, Azerbaijani readers prefer criminal news articles. If we do not release them, any other portal will do it,” she said.

Director of News and Analytical Programs Department of the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Anar Yusifoglu gave information about the activity of the company. Anar Yusifoglu said there were structures determining the rating of the TV channels in Azerbaijan, ITV was ahead for some points.

Vusala Mahirgizi and Anar Yusifoglu answered the questions of the participants.
