He was kidnapped while driving to work and his body was found outside a hospital in Durango City with signs of strangulation and gunshot wounds. The body was accompanied by a note saying: “This happened to me for giving information to the military and writing what I shouldn’t have. Regards, Vladimir.”
International Press Institute called on the Mexican government to put an end to the murder of journalists and to take urgent actions to punish the guilty people.
“We are saddened and appalled by the death of our brave colleague, José Vladimir Antuna García. We offer our condolences to his family and again call on the Mexican authorities to ensure that those behind the vicious killings of journalists are brought to justice,” said IPI Deputy Director Alison Bethel McKenzie.
Antuna, had reported receiving at least three recent death threats. In April, unknown people shot him near his house, but he could avoid the assassination.
