WAN officials visit Press Council

Baku â€“ APA. High-ranking officials of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) â€“Mirjana Milosevic, Executive Director of WAN Press Freedom and development Program, Bengt Braun, Program Manager, and Timothy Balding, WAN Chief Executive Officer visited Azerbaijan Press Council. Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov informed them about the experience of regulating the media-society, media-government relations, PC sources told APA. â€œThe main goal of the Council is investigating of appeals received by the different layers of the society concerning the newspapers, magazines and news agencies. It is important for solution of disputes inside the media organizations and not to send it to the court. There are some problems, but measures we took in the past period enabled us to be more optimisticâ€.
WAN officials said they aimed to learn influence of the existent atmosphere of freedom of speech and press on the activity of newspapers. They came to the conclusion that generally Azerbaijani media has poor structure and noted that it creates difficulties to approach the development and processes more objectively.
