Baku – APA. The Guardian’s Assistant News Editor and a political reporter Bayo Ohu was shot dead by five unknown men in his apartment in Egbeda, a Lagos suburb, International Eurasian Press Fund told APA quoting the International Press Institute (IPI). Ohu was going to attend the Church service when gunmen knocked on his door and shot him when he opened it. The assailants made away with only his laptop and mobile phone.
One of the Ohu’s children told The Guardian that from her hiding place he heard one of the assailants shouting out jubilantly to his colleagues: "The fool is dead”. The witnesses said that the assailants, after killing the journalist, still had enough time to wash their hands and feet while two of their colleagues fired shots into the air. Two journalists have been killed in Nigeria since 2006 and no one was arrested on those cases.
IPI Director David Dadge called on the Nigerian government to investigate details of this severe murder. “If Bayo Ohu was killed for his journalistic activity, the Nigerian government will take responsibility before every journalist for allowing the murderers to be at large”, said Dadge.
