“Next year, we will begin to actively improve the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line,” said Lasha Abashidze, General Director of Georgian Railways JSC, at a panel held within the framework of the V Tbilisi Silk Way Forum, APA’s local bureau reports.
He noted that the BTK is very important for the region.
“Within the framework of this project, it is planned to create a new terminal in Akhalkalaki. This terminal will play the role of a connecting point for individual operations. Thanks to the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project, we are gaining new connections, which will allow us to find new partners for the Middle Corridor. This line has a cargo carrying capacity of 5 million tons,” L. Abashidze said.
He noted that by 2027, the safety and speed of freight transportation by railways in Georgia will significantly increase.
