"The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line is of great regional importance," Lasha Abashidze, General Director of Georgian Railways JSC, said at a panel discussion held within the framework of the V Tbilisi Silk Way Forum, APA's local bureau reports.
According to him, the main advantage of the BTK project is the creation of direct connectivity for countries located along the Middle Corridor.
L. Abashidze said that Georgia is working on the introduction of electronic customs clearance with neighboring countries.
"With the introduction of the innovation, the period of cargo transportation from Azerbaijan to the Black Sea ports by rail will be reduced from 22-24 hours to 12 hours," he said.
The head of the JSC noted that the process of modernization of railway lines in Georgia has been completed:
"This will allow both to increase the volume of transported cargo, and to increase the speed of movement and shorten the time."
