Statistics for companies operating in the transport sector under the Azerbaijan Transport and Communication Holding (AZCON) have been released, APA-Economics reports, citing AZCON.
In the period from January to September this year, the number of passengers transported by Azerbaijan Railways JSC (ADY) increased by 20% compared to the same period last year, reaching 26,000 passengers.
During the nine months, the figure for BakuBus LLC grew by 40% to 522,000 passengers, while Azerbaijan Airlines JSC (AZAL) transported 3.1 million passengers, marking a 1% increase. Transit passenger transport by AZAL also rose by 18% to 326,000 passengers.
At Baku Metro CJSC, the number of operational train cars increased by 9% to 351, and the interval between trains was reduced by 15 seconds to 1 minute 45 seconds.
Growth was also recorded in the freight transport sector. The volume of cargo transported via ADY along the East-West (Middle Corridor) route increased by 6% to 2,651,000 tons. Container handling at Baku Port rose by 40% to 77,000 TEU. For Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company JSC (ASCO), the volume of cargo transported by land increased by 70% to 1,019,000 tons, tanker shipments grew by 11% to 3,346,000 tons, and shipments outside the Caspian region surged by 191% to 1,100,000 tons.
