The importance of the Zangazur Corridor is not limited to freight transportation, said Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov at a briefing for the diplomatic corps at the Zangilan Congress Center, APA reports.

According to him, in the long term, this project has the potential to become an engine of economic and social integration: "The corridor will also play the role of a platform for energy and communication infrastructure. As you can see today, Azerbaijan has already taken important steps towards the realization of this corridor. The large-scale rehabilitation program implemented in the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions aims to turn these areas into new development centers of the country."

The deputy minister noted that, within this framework, the construction of 3,200 kilometers of highways is underway, 71% of which has already been completed: "As for the new railway lines with a total length of 180 kilometers, 75% of the work has been finished. At the same time, three new international airports have been built in the region. The construction of the Horadiz-Aghband highway and railway, which are part of the corridor, is planned to be completed next year. As a result of these projects, the Araz Corridor will develop in parallel with the Zangezur Corridor, giving an additional boost to the expansion and integration of the region’s transport connections. It should be noted that practical steps have already been taken to remove the transit restrictions that previously existed through Armenia."
