Azerbaijani-Estonian ICT Workshop held in Baku

Baku. Ilham Isabalayeva - APA-Economics. The Azerbaijani-Estonian ICT Workshop has today taken place in Baku on the sidelines of the 14th Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition (BakuTel-2008).
Ali Abbasov, Azerbaijan’s Minister for Communications and Information Technologies praised the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of communications, saying Azerbaijan takes interest in learning Estonian experience in this area.
Mrs. Jana Krimpe, Chairwoman of the Estonia-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce, said Azerbaijan’s made great strides in the first phase “E-Azerbaijan” State Program.
According to her, Estonia has enormous experience in e-government, and makes a widespread use of e-polling, e-health, e-banking e-tax and other new services.
She noted that Estonia is the first ready country in the world to implement a vote by cell phone.
“Skype is widely used on the Internet. But few people know that this product belongs to Estonia. Skype has shown the world that even countries with few resources can provide good ideas. Estonia is a small country, but a good place for effective implementation of IT products. We can help Azerbaijan build e-government,” she added.
Aleksander Reitsakas, Director of Estonia’s X-Road National Database Project, added that 80% of Estonian citizens have electronic ID cards, every police car has access to the Internet and 65% of schools are e-schools.
