Nizami Piriyev clarifies his release from prison

Baku – APA. An AzMeCo methanol plant will resume operating in early June.

Fuad Hatamov, the PR director of AzMeCo Group of Companies, told APA that Nizami Piriyev, the head of the company’s board of directors, said he was arrested on 8 May 2015 over the criminal case on delayed repayments of an amount of loan to Azerbaijan International Bank, the loan he had taken for AzMeCo to resume operating.

“I paid a portion of the loan debts during the investigation and reached an agreement with the Azerbaijan International Bank on repaying the rest of my loan debts. The Baku City Narimanov District Court considered my appeal for cancellation of my pretrial detention, which the court finally annulled on May 28, 2015.

I currently run the methanol plant. Recent media reports on my release are untrue. It appears to me that someone is seeking to turn the tide in their favor so that they can expand their public influence,” said Piriyev.
