17 criminal groups rendered harmless in Baku in 1Q 2016

During the reporting period, the Interior Ministry and Prosecutor’s Office recorded 3,518 (2,933 last year) crimes, of which 83.8% were less grave and unlikely to pose huge public threat and 16.2% grave and especially grave. Compared to the same period of 2015, deliberate murders decreased by 15.8% and acts of deliberate bodily harm by 12.5%, the statement said.

It became possible to solve 74.4% (68.7% last year) of the crimes, 78.5% (75.5%) of the grave types, and 60.4% (56.8%) of those committed under uncertain conditions, according to the statement.

93.5% (89.9% last year) of 480 crimes aimed against personality, 94.4% (100% last year) of the deliberate murders, and 100% (100% last year) of the attempts to commit deliberate murder were disclosed. Compared to the same period of 2015, there was 5.7% progress in solving overall crimes, 3% in solving grave and especially grave types of crimes, 3.6% in solving those aimed against personality, 7.9% in the acts of deliberate bodily harm, 66.7% in sexual assault, 8.8% in solving those aimed against property, 12.8% in solving the hijacking of state and municipality property, 5.9% in theft of private property, 18.0% in solving thefts from homes, 2.2% in solving swindle, 7.7% in acts of robbery, 7.0% in solving the hijacking of vehicles, 5.6% in solving hooliganism, 4.6% in solving drug-related crimes, 16.4% in solving drug sale crimes, 4.2% in solving fatal traffic accidents, said the statement.

The use of modern information technology was of great importance in preventing and solving these crimes. Operators of "Safe City Service" of the Main Department and district police agencies detected 762 cases and 22 criminal cases were launched in the use of archival recordings from surveillance cameras.

42.5% of 708 (301) wanted suspects and 60% of 340 (105) persons declared wanted over grave and especially grave crimes were arrested.

More than 114 kg of drugs (108,2 kg last year) were seized in 351 cases.

Compared to the previous year, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 27.6%, fatalities by 46.7% and injured by 27.3%. Some 40 people died, 160 were injured in 123 traffic accidents in Baku in the first quarter of 2016.
