In the first half of 2024, there were 681 road traffic accidents, marking a 12.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2023 and the number of people affected by these accidents decreased by 11.8% to 931, APA reports citing the State Statistical Committee.
Out of those injured, 333 were killed and 598 were injured. 42.4% of the accidents occurred during the day, 39.2% at night, and 18.4% during twilight. Additionally, 27.3% of the accidents took place on weekends, specifically on Saturdays and Sundays.
86.5 % of the road traffic accidents occurred in residential areas. The number of people killed as a result of these incidents decreased by 17.4 percent compared to the corresponding period of last year to 242 people, while the number of injuries decreased by 13.5% to 557 people.
40.1 percent of all traffic accidents involved vehicles and pedestrians, 38.2 percent involved several vehicles, and 21.7 percent involved a single vehicle. Men accounted for 74.5 percent of those killed and 73.2 percent of those injured as a result of traffic accidents.
There were 13 accidents resulting in death or bodily injury due to vehicles being driven under the influence of alcohol. As a result, 5 people were killed and 9 were injured. Out of these incidents, 11 were caused by the drivers of passenger cars.
