Azerbaijan Committee against Torture receivers 61 appeals in 6-month period

Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh - APA. Azerbaijan Committee against Torture prepared a report on receiving of 61 complaint appeals during 6 months period this year. The chairman of the committee Elchin Behbudov told APA that 61 complaint appeals dealing with non-human treatment and the facts of torture were received by the committee during 6 months period. 3 complaints belong to women, the other to men: â€œThe appeals were received from the deputy of Executive Power of Khachmaz region, from â€œNâ€ number military unit of Defense Ministry, from different police departments, from Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service and from the employees of Sumgayit Transport Department. We sent the complaints to the relevant state organs in accordance with the desire of the appealers. In some cases administrative punishment were imposed, in others we received the notification that the evidences were not foundâ€.

E.Behbudov expressed his gratitude to the Ministery of Internal Affairs, Ministry of National Emengency, Defense Ministry, Ministry of Health, Education Ministry for their assistance in creating conditions for conducting of monitorings: â€œBut Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service doesnâ€™t cooperate with us. We consider this as a fact of concealment of torture cases. This item was also reflected in the reportâ€.

The chairman of the committee said that he would send this report to OSCE, European Union, UN and other international organizations.
