Work of the UN is of great importance for international cooperation, Thomas Stähli, the Swiss Ambassador to Azerbaijan, said during his remarks at an event in Baku dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the UN's founding, APA reports.
"UN Day is an opportunity to reflect on the principles that form the foundation of the organization—peace, human rights, and international cooperation. At a time when these principles are under pressure, the work of the UN remains as significant as ever. Dialogue between nations is not always easy, but there is no alternative to it," the diplomat emphasized.
Stähli noted that the Swiss city of Geneva hosts the UN’s European headquarters, as well as a number of other key international organizations. There, governments, academic circles, the private sector, and civil society come together to discuss global challenges and seek practical solutions to them. He also noted that marking UN Day with a concert program not only serves to highlight the importance of peace, human rights, and international cooperation, but also demonstrates the power of music and culture to bring together people from diverse backgrounds. According to him, Azerbaijan’s rich musical heritage holds special significance for this event.
