Two trains collide near Cape Town

Baku-APA. Two trains collided near Cape Town of South Africa on Tuesday, injuring one person, the Cape Town Disaster Risk Management said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The collision involved a train with 300 passengers on board and a stationary train carrying goods, the center said.

The incident happened at about 17:15 near Fisantekraal, Durbanville on the suburbs of Cape Town between the passenger train, which was en route to Malmesbury from Cape Town and the stationary train, according to the center.

Only one person suffered slight injuries, the center said, adding that rescuers have been dispatched to the scene.

The situation was under control and Metrorail arranged buses for the passengers to be taken to various destinations, the center said.

The local news outlet News24 put the number of passengers in the train at 500. Up to 500 passengers narrowly escaped the collision, the report said.

The Railway Safety Regulator would investigate the cause of the collision, it said.
