Evacuated residents of landslide threatened buildings return home

Officials said they could return home because ground water level dropped by 2 meters in the last two days. Electric and water supply will be restored today. Gas supply will be restored when all residents will return home.

Mayor of Baku Hajibala Abutalibov said two of three newly-built private houses would be removed in the landslide area. According to the preliminary version, construction of those houses caused landslide threat. Mayor said sewage, water and heating systems of the two buildings, which residents have been evacuated recently, will be repaired and reinforcement work will be done in the area. He said two private houses in the landslide area would be removed within two months.

The decision was made in the meeting attended by Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov, Minister of Emergency Situations Kemaleddin Heydarov, Mayor of Baku Hajibala Abutalibov and other government officials.

Residents of two nine-storey buildings in crossroad of General Shikhlinsky Street and Gandja Avenue in Khatai district of Baku were evacuated on March 3 because of landslide threat in that area.
