World Bank and Azerbaijani Justice Ministry sign new loan agreement

The projects of more than 20 new court houses and complexes were prepared within the framework of the project â€œModernization of the judicial systemâ€ implemented by the World Bank and Justice Ministry. The newly-constructed court house in Oghuz was opened with participation of President. A number of court houses are being constructed in various regions.

The new agreement envisages construction of court houses and complexes, improvement of the court decisions, potential of the Justice Academy. Meeting with World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan Joseph M. Owen and head of the project Amit Mukherjee, Justice Minister, chairman of the Judicial Legal Council Fikrat Mammadov underlined that they are effectively cooperating with the World Bank. Mammadov underlined the importance of the project. Speaking about the selection of judges in Azerbaijan, Fikrat Mammadov said the Council of Europe and the European Union regarded the procedure as a positive model and said it was recommended to other countries.

Joseph M. Owen highly appreciated the mutual activity in the judicial sphere and called the project successful and productive.
The guests praised the achievements in the legal sphere, underlined the importance of promoting the countryâ€™s positive experience on modernization of court infrastructure in other countries.
Issues of cooperation and measures to be taken for the implementation of the project were discussed at the meeting.
