European Court passes two more decisions on Azerbaijan

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. The European Court of Human Rights passed two more decisions related to Azerbaijan. APA reports quoting the Court’s website as saying that the applicant, Pirali Maharram oglu Orujov, is an Azerbaijani national who was born in 1958 and lives in Baku. The case concerned his complaints about the unfairness of criminal proceedings brought against him in June 2005 on charges of attempted deliberate destruction of property. He notably complained about not being summoned to the hearing of his cassation appeal, in breach of Article 6 § 1 (right to fair trial) of the European Convention on Human Rights. Violation of Article 6 § 1 (fairness)
Just satisfaction: 3,000 euros (EUR) (non-pecuniary damage) and EUR 550 (costs and expenses)

The case of Akhundov concerned the applicant’s complaint about the failure to enforce a judgment in his favour with regard to his unlawful dismissal and salary arrears. He relied in particular on Article 6 § 1 (right to a fair hearing) and Article 1 of Protocol No. 1 (protection of property).
