The use of ChatGPT is increasing in Azerbaijan and the region, showing that people see artificial intelligence as a new opportunity to get ahead in competition, said Zack Kass, an adviser to OpenAI and former head of one of its departments, at an event held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
He explained that there are currently three main trends observed in the field of artificial intelligence.
According to him, the first important trend is the rapid reduction in costs – i.e., “inference costs” – when using artificial intelligence models: “Developing countries were able to develop rapidly thanks to the cheapness of the Internet. Now, the reduction in the costs of running artificial intelligence models is having the same effect, and ChatGPT use is growing faster in Africa, Central Asia, and India than in other regions.”
The second important trend is the expansion of AI model capabilities in low-resource languages. Zack Kass noted that GPT-5 performs quite well in Central Asian languages, including Azerbaijani: “This allows the models to be more easily adopted on a global scale.”
The third main trend is the significant investment being directed towards chips and data centers in the Middle East and Central Asia.
According to him, these investments will give a strong boost to the regional economy as a whole.
Kass emphasized that while the first two trends mainly create opportunities for young people and users, the third trend is aimed at the economy as a whole.
