Person internationally wanted over cigarette smuggling to be extradited to Azerbaijan

A person on the international wanted list will be extradited to Azerbaijan, the Press Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office told APA.

As a result of an appeal by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, the submission of documents required in accordance with international procedures, and negotiations held, an agreement has been reached on the extradition to Azerbaijan of Azerbaijani citizen Anvar Hasan oghlu Taghiyev.

Thus, in a criminal case under preliminary investigation by the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, reasonable suspicions were established that Anvar Taghiyev had committed the crime of smuggling, as well as stored for the purpose of sale the said consignment, which was required to bear an excise stamp, without such marking.

A relevant decision was made to charge him as an accused person, and as he evaded the investigation and went into hiding, he was placed on the international wanted list through Interpol’s National Central Bureau. As a result of the measures taken, he was located and detained in Ukraine.

Relevant measures are currently being taken to bring Anvar Taghiyev to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Prosecutor General’s Office will continue its cooperation with the relevant authorities of foreign countries, including Interpol, in order to locate wanted persons and bring them to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
