US government investigators have subjected around 50 members of the Pentagon’s Joint Staff to polygraph tests as part of an investigation into information leaked to journalists, APA reports, citing The New York Times.
According to the newspaper, the investigation focused on leaked information concerning the war with Iran, particularly reports that the conflict had caused shortages of key munitions.
The tests were reportedly conducted in August and involved both military personnel and civilian employees. Those questioned were asked whether they had provided classified information to journalists.
Investigators specifically sought to determine how information about the rapid depletion of critical US munitions during the war with Iran reached the media.
The limited stockpiles reportedly included long-range precision-strike missiles and Patriot air defence interceptors.
CBS News separately reported that dozens of senior military officers, including some officials from US Central Command (CENTCOM), had undergone polygraph tests.
