Venice Commission to discuss Azerbaijanâ€™s legislation on nongovernmental organizations and draft law on Protection from Defamation

The compatibility with human rights standards of the legislation on nongovernmental organizations and the Draft Law on Protection from Defamation of Azerbaijan will be discussed at the 95th plenary session of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. APA reports quoting the Venice Commission that during the session on June 14-15, the participants will be informed about the results of the opinion given by the Commission on compatibility with human rights standards of the legislation on nongovernmental organizations. The opinions given on October 19, 2011 cover the facilitation of NGOs registration and other recommendations.

The Commission will be also informed about the Draft Law on Protection from Defamation. No opinion on Azerbaijan is expected to be given.
