He noted that the EU-Azerbaijan cooperation began 20 years ago. “There are some internal and external speculations on Azerbaijan’s unwillingness towards the European Union. This is just nonsense. Our strategic goal is to apply the experience of the EU in Azerbaijan at the highest level”, he said.
Referring to the high-level relations between Azerbaijan and the EU in the energy sector, the deputy minister recalled that in September, 2014 it was laid foundations for the Southern Gas Corridor project in Baku and the first meeting of the Advisory Council was held 10 days ago. “Our message is that we should be careful to respond to emerging challenges”, he added.
Mammadguliyev underlined that Azerbaijan has already ratified the protocol on the participation in projects of the European Union. He noted with regret that this protocol hadn’t been ratified by other countries: “I ask the ambassadors here to contribute to the solution of the problem with the ratification of this protocol.”
The Deputy FM said that it is time for developing legal documents to be based on the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the European Union. He said that Azerbaijan is ready for it and the document is being completed. Then the document will be put up for the discussion at the European Commission.
