On July 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the ASEAN ministerial meetings in Manila, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
According to the ministry, the two sides held a detailed exchange of views on a wide range of bilateral and international issues.
During the discussion on Ukraine, Sergey Lavrov informed his American counterpart about the real situation along the line of contact and emphasized the inadmissibility of further arming the Ukrainian authorities, as well as the overall destabilizing policy of European countries that continue to seek Russia's "strategic defeat."
Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's readiness to pursue a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict and reiterated Moscow's commitment to the proposals put forward by the U.S. side for a meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska, as agreed by the Russian leader.
The sides also discussed regional and international issues, including the situation in the Persian Gulf.
Lavrov and Rubio welcomed the restoration of full-fledged cooperation between Roscosmos and NASA and expressed support for expanding inter-parliamentary exchanges and cultural ties.
Attention was also given to normalizing the operation of Russian and U.S. diplomatic missions.
"The parties agreed to maintain contacts between the foreign ministries, including on the work of the two countries within international organizations," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The Lavrov-Rubio talks lasted 35 minutes.
According to Russian media, citing diplomatic sources, the meeting was held at the initiative of the U.S. side. The U.S. delegation also included Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker.
