Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan unaware of Khalida Khalid and Shamkhal Huseynov's whereabouts

Baku. Shamil Alibeyli – APA. “Khalida Khalid and her driver Shamkhal Huseynov arrested in Iran are not in prison. I don’t know where they are being held now,” Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen told APA.

The Ambassador said that there is no correlation between the detentions of Khalida Khalid and Mikayil Kazimi in Azerbaijan: “Mikayil Kazimi was arrested 5 months ago and it is not related to Azerbaijani citizens’ detention in Iran. I will release the details of Mikayil Kazimi’s detention after the case of Khalida Khalid is resolved.”

Khalida Khalid and Shamkhal Huseynov were detained in Tabriz on April 30. Following Azerbaijan’s two notes, Iranian Foreign Ministry said that they had been arrested for illegal activity.

Though the Iranian side stated that Khalida Khalid and Shamkhal Huseynov have been released, they have not been handed over to Azerbaijan.
