Baku. Shamil Alibeyli – APA. Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen clarified the reasons of the detention of Iranian citizen Mikayil Kazimi in our country.
In his interview with APA, the ambassador said that Kazimi was a member of the delegation from Ardabil province of Iran that participated in the trade fair in Baku: “He is a security officer and has right to carry weapons in Iran. When Mikayil Kazimi arrived in Azerbaijan, he handed his weapon to the Iranian side, but forgot charger in his pocket. Therefore, he was detained on the border. Following this, court sentenced him to 3 years and 6 months in prison.”
The ambassador said that an appeal has been filed against the court’s judgment: “We hope that it will be replied positively.”
The ambassador noted that the arrest of Kazimi has nothing to do with the detention of Khalida Khalid in Iran: “After Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh returned from Ä°ran he met with Azerbaijani officials and asked to release Mikayil Kazimi. Taking into account the good relations between the two countries, such issues are solved during bilateral discussions. Our representative met with Mikayil Kazimi and he has admitted his mistake.”
