Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan meets with Foreign Minister of the Islamic State of Afghanistan

Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov and Foreign Minister of the Islamic State of Afghanistan Dr. Zalmai Rassoul met in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, in particular the prospects of bilateral cooperation and Azerbaijan’s contributions to the regional security and the rebuilding efforts in Afghanistan.

Ministers Mammadyarov and Rassoul noted with satisfaction the current state of bilateral relations and agreed to further enhance the solid cooperation between the two countries. They noted the need to expand the areas for cooperation and in that regard emphasized the importance of strengthening legal basis for cooperation. The two Ministers agreed to start negotiations in order to prepare a framework agreement for comprehensive cooperation and partnership.

Minister Rassoul congratulated his Azerbaijani counterpart on the occasion of Republic Day of Azerbaijan and expressed his gratitude to his Azerbaijani counterpart for Azerbaijan’s invaluable and consistent support to Afghanistan, particularly its humanitarian support, the funding of Afghan students' education in Azerbaijani universities and the support given to the rebuilding and strengthening the capacity of Afghan institutions.

Both Ministers reiterated readiness to explore avenues for further strengthening bilateral relations and agreed to continue mutual support in the frame of international organizations.
