Azerbaijani, Turkmen, Turkish FMs adopt joint statement

Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan reiterated their commitment their respect and support for each other's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, the foreign ministers of the three countries said in a joint statement on the outcomes of the trilateral meeting held on Jan.29, the Foreign Ministry told APA.

According to the statement, the parties discussed the issues of international politics and emphasized the importance of the efforts toward ensuring peace, security and stability and creating conditions for trust and mutual understanding in international and regional scale, especially in the Central Asia, Caspian Sea region, Southern Caucasus and the Middle East.

The FMs discussed the development of cooperation between the three countries in the energy sector, emphasizing the importance of delivering natural gas from the Caspian Sea region to Europe through Turkey. In this regard, the parties noted the importance of expanding cooperation between energy companies, adding that organizing a trilateral meeting of representatives of oil and gas companies is expedient.

Taking wide transport and transit opportunities of the countries into consideration, the ministers said they attach importance to the development of cooperation in transport and communications. The parties also focused on the issue of establishing Afghanistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey transport corridor with the view of enhancing cooperation in the transport area and allowing the three countries to widely use their opportunities.

The minister also noted that it is important to arrange meetings of representatives of the three countries’ transport ministries, chambers of commerce, relevant ministries and agencies.

The FMs adopted a framework program on cooperation between Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan for 2015-17.
