Azerbaijan to be one of eight countries to participate in new NATO mission in Afghanistan

Azerbaijan will participate in NATO’s post-2014 mission in Afghanistan, spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev, who is paying a visit to Turkey, told Kanal 24 TV channel, APA reports. He said Azerbaijan plays an important role in the peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan and ISAF withdrawal from Afghanistan by 2014.

 

According to Elman Abdullayev, Azerbaijan is pursuing efficient humanitarian policy in the recovery of Afghanistan, a number of measures are being taken, Afghanistan’s territory has been cleared off mines with the participation of ANAMA. The spokesman mentioned that according to the decision of NATO summit, a new post-2014 mission will be set after ISAF mission leaves Afghanistan.

“Azerbaijan is one of the eight states to participate in this mission. The objective of the mission is to work with the citizens for the restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan,” he said.

 

Elman Abdullayev also touched on Azerbaijan-US relations, TANAP project and resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. He underlined that in Nagorno Karabakh problem Azerbaijan’s positions are very strong from legal point of view.

“There is no international organization that does not support Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. The status-quo is inadmissible and must be changed. The resolution of this conflict will favor the entire region. The occupation of Azerbaijan’s territories continues, OSCE Minsk Group should be more active in the resolution of the conflict,” he said.
