Baku – APA. Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov has paid a visit to Federal Republic of Germany to hold bilateral political consultations. Khalaf Khalafov met with Markus Ederer, Secretary of State to the German Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany told APA.
Khalafov said as a next round of political consultations, the visit was aimed at further enhancement of bilateral relations, informing the German side about Azerbaijan's views on the development of bilateral relations.
The sides exchanged views on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Azerbaijani minister noting the importance of putting an end to double standards in the settlement of the conflict, urging the EU, including Germany to impose sanctions on the Nagorno-Karabakh separatists.
Markus Ederer, in his turn, called Azerbaijan an important partner for Germany in the region in the political, economic, cultural, political, and security fields.
Khalafov discussed various aspects of bilateral relations of multidimensional nature at the meeting with Special Envoy for Eastern Europe,Caucasus and Central Asia at the German Foreign Office Cord Meier-Klodt. He also had meetings with head of the Germany-South Caucasus parliamentary group under the German Bundestag, Ms Karin Shtrents and deputy head of Department of Foreign Relations, Security Policy and Global Questions of the Federal Foreign Office Mr. Michael Flügger.
