"All religious leaders and people of faith must come together," Miguel Ángel Moratinos, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, said at an event titled "Dialogue of Religions: A Roadmap to a Shared Future," held at the Heydar Aliyev Center as part of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku, APA reports.
"Because if we do not unite, artificial intelligence will represent all of you. I do not want this, we must oppose it and not accept it. Intercultural dialogue cannot be complete without taking religion into account," he said.
The UN official noted that the world is once again facing wars, conflicts, crises, and human suffering.
"Therefore, the universal principles and values enshrined in the UN Charter must be applied in real life," he stated.
Emphasizing the importance of combating Islamophobia, Moratinos said that the fight against all forms of discrimination must be based on the principles of human rights, human dignity, and equality.
The UN official stated that interreligious and intercultural dialogue is essential for mutual understanding, but merely listening to one another is not enough.
He noted that tolerance alone is not sufficient for developing relations:
"It is not enough to express solidarity with representatives of another religion after a crisis or tragedy occurs. We must work to prevent conflicts in advance and create a common agenda and alliance. This is not about a military alliance, but about unity for the sake of peace and mutual understanding."
Miguel Ángel Moratinos emphasized that dialogue is important, but to ensure peace, it must be accompanied by concrete joint action.
