"On February 4, a video conference was held on the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron with the participation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of the European Union Emmanuel Macron, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, The joint statement of Charles Michel and Emmanuel Macron confirms the continuation of the successful peace agenda established in Brussels," Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on defense, security and anti-corruption Ziyafat Asgarov told APA.
Asgarov noted the importance of the joint meeting held in Brussels on December 14, 2021, with the participation of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol was stressed at the video conference initiated by President Charles Michel. Then, as a continuation of the Brussels peace agenda, detailed discussions were held on the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
“I want to especially note one point. France participated in this meeting not as co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group, but as a country that accepted chairmanship to the European Union. There is no reference to the OSCE Minsk Group in the joint statement of Charles Michelle and Emanuel Macron. In other words, there is no reference to the Minsk Group in the document, in accordance with the nature of the meetings held in Sochi, Moscow, and Brussels. There are no expressions such as “Nagorno Karabakh conflict” even “Karabakh” in the document. The issue of Karabakh is completely off the agenda, the statement is once again the next example of it. France as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group accepts this reality. So, successful peace agenda established in Brussels continues.”
