Lefkosha. Mahbube Gasimbeyli–APA. President of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Mehmet Ali Talat held press conference on Friday on the occasion of 25th anniversary of the republic. Talat said though the republic was established 25 years ago, the Turks were living there for a long time, APA correspondent reports from the Turkish Republic of Cyprus. He blamed Greek side in failure of 2004-2008 negotiations over the Cyprus problem. The President said Greek side did not accept the Annan plan and they were forced to begin negotiations from scratch. Talat thinks that Annan plan was the only serious document for the solution to the problem. He said now the sides were negotiating the issue of federative model. Turkish side demands Swedish model of parliament system, but Greeks want the presidential administration. He said they would discuss in near future the relations with EU, land, economy and property issues. Talat added that the European Union has moved away from the Turkish Cypriots since the Greek Cyprus became a member of this union.
President Talat told APA correspondent that they are friend to Azerbaijan, but international political environment prevent them to develop the relations. “Azerbaijan, after Turkey, takes important place among the countries supporting us”. Focusing on such serious problem of Azerbaijan like Nagorno Karabakh, Talat said the European Union pressure on Azerbaijan not to establish relations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
