He noted that terror is a threat against peace and security as well as enjoyment of human rights, fundamental freedoms, democracy, political independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, social and economic development.
“Azerbaijan strongly condemns all the forms of terrorism. We consider all the terror acts as a crime and they should be condemned and punished. Terrorists should not be given pretext for their acts. The President noted that foreign occupation creates conditions for the network between terrorism and aggressive separatism extremism and organized crime
“Terrorism has a changing nature and character in many instances separately linked aggressive separatism extremism and organized crime. Areas affected by armed conflicts especially, foreign occupation creates conditions for conductive network between terrorism and those acts in these areas. Azerbaijan has been affected by terrorism in different ways. Azerbaijan has been direct target of externally sponsored terrorist activities. Republic of Armenia committed dozens of terror acts against civilian population and infrastructure of Azerbaijan as a result of which 2 thousand Azerbaijanis lost their lives. Armenia orchestrated those terror acts with direct involvement of its security agencies and by using international terrorists groups,†said Ilham Aliyev.
The Head of the State stressed that during active phase of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Armenia widely practiced terror acts for ethnic cleansing against civilian population of Azerbaijan.
Those act of cruelty culminated with annihilation of Khojaly town in February, 1992, where 613 innocent people including children, women and elderly people were perished. More than 100 women, 63 children were killed. Armenia also targeted civilians far beyond conflict zone by masterminding terror acts in public transport in critical infrastructures such as bomb explosions in Baku metro in 1994 and others.
