Azerbaijan strongly protests against provocative actions and statements of the Armenian side

In his letter to the UN Secretary-General Tofig Musayev, ChargÃ© dâ€™affaires a.i.of Azerbaijan, brought into attention the statements of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan at the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly on 22 June, as well as during the official visit to Ukraine and at the First Army Conference of Young Officers on 9 July, saying, â€œthose statements represent the most cynical examples of blatant misinterpretation and distortion of the root causes, course and consequences of the war unleashed by Armenia against Azerbaijanâ€.

â€œIt should be particularly noted that the above-mentioned statements were made against the background of the 24 June meeting in Kazan between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia, hosted by the President of the RF and the confirmation by the sides as a result of the meeting that they would continue to seek a negotiated settlementâ€, he added. â€œA sudden emotional outburst by the President of Armenia on the eve of and immediately after the discussions in Kazan made it clear that the officials in Yerevan continue to remain under the disastrous influence of illusionsâ€.

According to the letter, Azerbaijan strongly protests against provocative actions and statements of the Armenian side, finds the aggressorâ€™s insolent behavior as obvious manifestation of impunity for its crimes and considers the defiant rhetoric of the Armenian leadership as having the sole purpose of discrediting the ongoing conflict settlement process, misleading the international community and drawing its own publicâ€™s attention away from the countryâ€™s aggravating internal problems.

Mr. Musayev also draws UNâ€™s attention to ongoing violations of the ceasefire by the armed forces of Armenia, recorded for June. During this period the armed forces of Armenia violated the ceasefire 55 times from their positions located both in the territory of Armenia and in the occupied areas of Azerbaijan. As a result, one Azerbaijani civilian was killed and one serviceman of the armed forces of Azerbaijan was seriously wounded.
