Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski visits Icheri Sheher

Baku – APA. President of the republic of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski, who is on official visit to Azerbaijan, visited Icheri Sheher, the Old City in Baku. Icheri Sheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve Office told APA that the guest was welcomed by the head of the reserve office Mikayil Cabbarov, who informed him about the activity of his office and contribution of the Polish architects to the architecture of Baku. President Komorowski visited Aliaga Vahid Garden in the Old City, where he got information about the qhazal poet of Azerbaijan Aliaga Vahid. Then he became familiarized with the buildings of Shirvanshahlar Sarayi (Palace of Shirvan Kings) architectural complex and learned their history. The guest also tasted “tendir choregi”, bread baked in the oven made of clay, which is a part of the Azerbaijani national cuisine. President Komorowski was informed about the extraordinary architectural style of Giz Galasi (Maiden Tower), the symbol of Baku, which was included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The guest also visited Siratagli architectural religious complex.

Komorowski also visited the caravansarais, which were built in the 15th century and leased by Shirvanshah Khalilullah I to the resident of Baku Gasim Bey and his sons. Caravansarai is an attribute of the ancient Oriental life and every visitor took an interest in it. The guest was informed about the restoration work there. The Polish president visited Ashur Mosque built in 1169 by master Najaf Ashur Ibrahim and nearby Friday Mosque.

Then Komorowski visited the art center – Art Garden – in the Kichik Caravansarai complex to look at the painting and decorative works there. He wrote cordial words in the book of honorary guests.
