“Azerbaijan deserves that we know it better. It is a very significant partner for Russia,” he said.

Diplomat said Azerbaijan is an independent participant of the world energy market.
“Azerbaijan exports much oil, its say is valuable, position is of great importance,” he said.

Ambassador gave information about the attitude towards the Russian language and Russian culture in Azerbaijan.
“Rare situation is observed here with regard to the Russian language and Russian culture. Actually there was bilingualism in this country during the Soviet times. Most of the Azerbaijani intellectuals were brought up basing on the traditions of the Russian culture. Despite the fundamental historical turning point in the development of Azerbaijan these traditions have not been put aside, bilingualism is still promoted, appreciated and this is very important for our relations,” he said.

Answering the questions about the resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, diplomat said:
“Now we can openly say that the leadership of the Soviet Union headed by Gorbachev made mistakes. It misestimated the conflict and passed incorrect decisions,” he said.

Noting that there has been ceasefire since 1994 and peace talks are being held, Russian diplomat underlined that the intensive work done by the mediators within 15 years have not produced results yet.
“All our diplomatic efforts aim at finding peaceful solution to this conflict,” he said.
