Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has praised U.S. President Donald Trump for playing a key role in helping Azerbaijan and Armenia reach a peace agreement, The Floridian reports.
According to the U.S. publication, speaking at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, President Aliyev commended the Trump administration's contribution to advancing the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The article notes that Breitbart News senior investigative reporter Joshua Klein asked President Aliyev what President Trump had done differently from previous U.S. administrations, particularly the Biden administration, to help facilitate peace between the two South Caucasus countries.
In response, President Aliyev said Trump's approach differed fundamentally from that of his predecessors.
"President Trump's approach was quite different. He is a person who loves peace. As he himself says, he has brought peace to many conflicts. This is his character, his vision, and his policy. In our case, his role was very important," the Azerbaijani president said.
Aliyev also stressed that Trump played a major role during the final stage of negotiations on the peace agreement.
"President Trump and his team stepped in and created such a framework that peace became possible. They fully understood our concerns with respect to peace," he added.
According to The Floridian, President Aliyev also referred to the historic meeting at the White House with President Trump and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, where the peace agreement was reached.
The publication also quoted House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast, who said President Trump's key foreign policy advantage over previous administrations is that world leaders view his commitments as firm and credible.
The article further notes that in August 2025, President Trump lifted the restrictions imposed under Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, which had prohibited direct U.S. assistance to Azerbaijan for many years.
