Azerbaijani Foreign Minster meets with UN Secretary General

Baku â€“ APA. Within the framework of his working visit to the USA Azerbaijani Foreign Minster Elmar Mammadyarov met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN Headquarters in New-York on May 31. Press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA that Ban Ki-moon expressed satisfaction with the high-level cooperation between the UN and Azerbaijan.

At first Mammadyarov conveyed greetings of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Then he informed the Secretary General about the negotiations process on Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Ban Ki-moon noted the necessity of peaceful settlement of the conflict, and said that he expects results in this direction.

Mammadyarov drew attention to Azerbaijanâ€™s nomination in the elections for the non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council in 2012-2013 and advantages concerning the countryâ€™s membership.
