US ambassador to Azerbaijan: â€œDeauville statement by the presidents encouraged meâ€

The ambassador said as the US President noted in that meeting the time arrived for the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia to meet: â€œWe believe and hope that the presidents of both countries will think about the basic principles of the peace agreement. The basic principles are not a final peace agreement, but this is a coordinated document which can be a basis for the final peace agreement. Since my arrival in Azerbaijan as the ambassador, I have noted that the most important issue of my mission is to support and assist the Minsk Groupâ€™s activity because this conflict must be solved only peacefullyâ€.

Regarding the upcoming meeting between the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents next month, Bryza said he couldnâ€™t comment on it because he is not mediator in the negotiations currently: â€œBut Deauville statement by the US, Russian and French presidents encouraged me. I hope that optimist and positive atmosphere established after the meeting of Presidents Aliyev and Sargsyan on March 5 in Sochi, will be continued at the next meeting.â€
