Mountain View City Council of Northern California proclaims 28 May as Day of Azerbaijan â€“ <font color=red>PHOTOSESSION</font>

Mayor of Mountain View Jac Seigel, members of the City Council, Turks, Russians, Georgians, Jews, Kyrgyz, Tatars living in the Bay Area attended the event held at the Historic Adobe Building on the initiative of the Azerbaijanis living in Northern California on the occasion of the Republic Day and 20th anniversary of the independence.
The national anthems of the US and Azerbaijan were played. Following this, mayor of Mountain View offered his congratulations on the Republic Day, said for the first time Day of Azerbaijan was proclaimed in the city and presented the Proclamation signed on behalf of the members of the City Council on the occasion of the Republic Day of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani Vice-Consul to Los Angeles Ramil Gurbanov spoke about the importance of the Republic Day for the Azerbaijanis, said that Azerbaijan founded the first democratic republic, theater and opera in the Muslim world, was the first Muslim country to extend suffrage to women.
The initiator of the Azerbaijani night in Mountain View Zarifa Musayeva informed the participants about our country, expressed her gratitude to Mayor Jac Seigel for the proclamation of the Day of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani Consulate General in Los Angeles for support to hold the event on the 20th anniversary of the independence. Noting that historically various ethnic and religious groups lived in peace in Azerbaijan, which is located at the juncture of various cultures and has rich civilization, Zarifa Musayeva expressed her gratitude to the representatives to other communities for participation in the event.
Following this, the Azerbaijanis living in Northern California performed national dances, Namig Soltanov played the works by Fikrat Amirov, Azerbaijani children presented a musical program. Russian House Cedar, representatives of Kyrgyz and Tatar communities performed in their languages.
The event was held on the initiative of the Northern Azerbaijani Culture Community in America, Zarifa Musayeva, with the support of Azerbaijani Consulate General in Los Angeles.
